TES TRIP TO WMPC FOR WORKSHOP
by Belle P. Fernandez

On September 09 and 10, 2010 , Thursday and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tugbungan Elementary School (TES) Batch Two Teachers belonging to Grades 1, 2 and 3 went to a short trip to attend the Two-Day Echo Seminar Workshop on Skills Development for Effective Teaching and Learning” in Western Mindanao Power Corp. (WMPC), Multi-Purpose Hall in Sangali, Zamboanga City. The seminar was in coordination with Zamboanga City Division Office, Department of Education.

The two-day-seminar workshop was a great opportunity offered to teachers, an avenue for our professional growth and development. We were grateful for their means to help us upgrade our skills in “no pay” at all (for free)! What was imparted, taught, shared and absorbed from the seminar helped us once more to reconstruct old ways, adapt the new positive ways and add up to our teaching styles the insights learned.

The seminar covered the Learning Roadmap on Leadership, Brain-based Education, Parameters of Teaching and the Curriculum & Pedagogy. The descriptions
passed on during the seminar were made cleared by the speakers Dr. Evangeline Araneta (Bongiao Central School Principal), Dr. Wilma Brown (Manicahan Central School Principal), Ms Elaine Dela Cruz, Ms. Eden Galvez, and Ms. Evelyn Ramillano.

The teachers, on the other hand appreciated so much what they had contributed and extended to us. In return, we committed ourselves to apply and practice what we had learned when we come back to our field. “Accept change, work them out and make a big difference.” Who dare wants to become INCOMPETENT anyway? Well…. Sure guess… NO ONE! One of the reasons why they conducted the seminar was to note the ”subjects” of becoming EXCELLENT rather than a MEDIOCRE type of teacher. Resolving the inactive approaches and strategies should be replaced with active applications in order for a teacher to be effective, efficient and “excellent”.

To those who initiated this big boosting of knowledge and communication may still come up for more seminars (for free) and may we still be the recipient school to become part of the new innovations.

To all of us, may we continuously be filled with wisdom and knowledge . As I often say to teachers, “Be a SKILL BOOSTER, NOT a skill buster!” Good Luck.
